Selena Gomez opens up about going to therapy

She gets by with a little help from her therapist.

Nearly a year after she decided to drop everything and check into a 90-day treatment facility, Selena Gomez is opening up to InStyle magazine about the secret to maintaining her mental health.

“I go to therapy. I believe in that and talking about where you are,” she said. “But I’m in a really, really healthy place.”

The “Fetish” singer made headlines in 2016 when she canceled her “Revival” tour and checked into rehab. She told InStyle that getting help was “the best thing” she could have done at that time.

“I had no phone, nothing, and I was scared. But it was amazing and I learned a lot,” she said during the interview.

“I was in the countryside and never did my hair; I took part in equine therapy, which is so beautiful. And it was hard, obviously. But I knew what my heart was saying, and I thought, ‘OK, I think this has helped me become stronger for other people.'”

Nowadays she’s back on the scene, making music and spending time with her high-profile boyfriend The Weeknd, also known as Abel Tesfaye.

Gomez, 25, told InStyle she’s over-the-moon with her beau, but she’s not letting the relationship define her.

“I don’t depend on one area of my life to make me happy. It’s really important for me to love and nourish my friends and family and to make sure that I never get influenced by a guy,” she explained during the interview.

“I’ve wanted to be in a strong headspace for years, and I really wasn’t. Before, I was so young and easily influenced, and I’d feel insecure. You want someone to add to your life, not to complete you, if that makes sense. I’m lucky because he’s more of a best friend than anything else.”

The award-winning songstress has been open with fans about her mental health struggles. After returning to the spotlight post-rehab, Gomez delivered a heartfelt speech about bouncing back from a dark place during the American Music Awards.

“If you are broken, you don’t have to stay broken,” she said at the time.

She later elaborated further in an interview with Vogue, speaking candidly about her bouts with anxiety and depression and how touring fuels both.

“Tours are a really lonely place for me,” she said. “My self-esteem was shot. I was depressed, anxious. I started to have panic attacks right before getting on stage, or right after leaving the stage. Basically I felt I wasn’t good enough, wasn’t capable. I felt I wasn’t giving my fans anything, and they could see it — which, I think, was a complete distortion.”
