Stanley Milgrim conducted an infamous experiment trying to understand how average Germans could transform into psychopaths (see Mano by the tens of millions). By today’s standards some consider Milgram’s fake-shock experiment unethical but it did provide valuable insight of how nearly a whole country went from being normally decent human beings into a nation of serial killers. His thesis in a nutshell was that people for all their talk about being independent thinkers in practice tend to follow authority figures And this would include on moral issues where they’ll often put aside their own sense of reason and moral compass to follow their authority figures..
The former Yugoslavians are about as “ethnic” Macedonians as they are “Athenians” or “Spartans”.. Nada. Zero. Zilch. And anyone remotely educated in Greek history well knows it. Alas they didn’t want to listen to the dumb Greek “nationalist” that warned against recognition. Instead they wanted to lie and play ethnic engineers like Yugoslav communist propagandists once did.. Lo and behold Greeks were right after all. They did abuse the name to peddle fake history and use that to promote irredentism against Greece.
Hear that sound? It’s the deafening sound of silence.
Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, New York Times, BBC, Al Jazeera, etc. etc… mass media and leaders of national countries around the global… are all authority figures. They all called and call the former Yugoslavians “Macedonians”. They couldn’t be all wrong. So everyone calls them “Macedonians” despite unambiguously knowing they are not.
It’s not my imagination everyone evades on this issue. The mass prejudice that has been showed toward Greeks on this Macedonia issue is very real.
