Prosecution norms eased for tax filing defaults

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has relaxed some norms relating to prosecution of income tax defaulters for delay in depositing TDS (tax deducted at source), under-reporting of income in the tax return or non-filing of I-T return. CBDT’s circular, issued on September 9, sets the limit and time period for proceeding with prosecution in respect of TDS defaults.
