Here's Every Word Sansa and Arya Said to Each Other When They Reunited

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones season 7, episode 4.

One of the most hoped-for Game of Thrones reunions happened tonight. After many, many years apart, Arya Stark finally returned to Winterfell, where her sister Sansa was holding the fort.

When Arya arrived, she had trouble with some skeptical guards, who didn’t believe she really was the youngest Stark girl. But she suggested they let her in—because they’d be in a world of trouble if it became known that they’d turned her away—and gained entry to her childhood home. It was a moving, sad moment, as she realized that Winterfell had changed, almost as much as she had.

Arya quickly escaped the guards, who had to shamefacedly tell their lady about the girl who’d gotten away from them. But because Arya had mentioned Maester Luwin, who’d previously served the Starks, Sansa knew that it truly was her little sister who had returned. Immediately, she made her way down to the crypt, where she knew Arya would go.

Needless to say, their reunion was more satisfying than Sansa and Bran’s reunion, which had both Sansa and viewers confused thanks to Bran’s odd behavior. Arya and Sansa’s reunion was exquisite: tentative and loving, underlined by a strong sense that much was going unsaid.

Here’s everything that the sisters said to each other when they met for the first time in years.

Arya: Do I have to call you Lady Stark now?

Sansa: Yes. You shouldn’t have run from the guards.

Arya: I didn’t run. You need better guards. It suits you—Lady Stark. Jon left you in charge.

Sansa: He did. I hope he comes back soon. I remember how happy he was to see me, and when he sees you his heart will probably stop.

Arya: [Looking at statue of Ned Stark] It doesn’t look like him. Should have been carved by someone who knew his face.

Sansa: Everyone who knows his face is dead.

Arya: We’re not. They say you killed Joffrey. Did you?

Sansa: Wish I had.

Arya: Me too. I was so angry when I heard someone else had done it. However long my list got, he was always first.

Sansa: Your list?

Arya: Of people I’m going to kill.

Sansa: How did you get back to Winterfell?

Arya: It’s a long story. I imagine yours is, too.

Sansa: Yes. and not a very pleasant one.

Arya: Mine either. But our stories aren’t over yet.

Sansa: No, they’re not. Arya, Bran’s home too.
