Jiya_Midha_dec17.jpg

Jiya Midha

New Delhi [India], Dec 17 (NewsVoir): Jiya Midha and her Rubik cubes have been inseparable for years. Having a keen interest in colors and symmetry from the beginning, this seven-year-old girl, studying at Oakridge International School is now being considered as the prodigy when she recently won the ‘Youngest Cuber’ Award in 2018 on an international level in the Vancouver Select 2018 (Canada), wherein over 99 contestants took part, She has set a benchmark for solving 2×2 Rubik’s cube with a record-breaking 51 seconds.
Jiya in her previous feats had snagged a few more titles in national records for herself. She was awarded as the ‘Youngest Cuber’ in the Geethanjali Cube Open held at Geethanjali College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad in association with World Cube Association (WCA) & Deccan Cubing.
She solved the Rubik’s cube in a remarkable record time of 2 minutes and 38 seconds and was the youngest among 93 other participants. She also proved her cubing skills in the Varsha Ritu Cube Open 2018 held in Hyderabad.
At first glance, she would seem like the typical cute little third-grader busy playing with some colorful cubes. But, upon looking closely, one would realize that Jiya is no ordinary 7-year-old. Jiya has been cubing since a very young age. On her 2nd birthday, she got a couple of differently shaped puzzles in one box as a gift which she solved in a few minutes.
This amazed her parents, who then decided to give her a Rubik’s cube and encouraged her to play with it. At the age of three, Jiya started showing interest in playing with the Rubik’s cube. She could solve the 2×2 cube and soon she learned to solve various such puzzles including 3*3 cube, which is among her favorites.
“Jiya’s achievement at such an young age is truly amazing. We are sure she will go on to break great many records in the coming years,” said Hema Sanjay , Principal, Oakridge International School, Hyderabad.
Oh! And if you think this young prodigy has monopolized completely towards Cubing, you will be amazed to know she is immensely avid for singing and writing poems as well. While she was studying in Grade 1 itself, she has written several poems that have been published in various portals including the RobinAge: Wall of Fame, a weekly children’s newspaper. (NewsVoir)

Tyre_Underwaydec17.jpg

Tyre Safety Training Underway

New Delhi [India], Dec 17 (NewsVoir): Having undertaken several campaigns aimed at sensitizing Passenger Vehicle (PV) owners on tyre safety, ATMA has sharpened focus on Tyre Care & Road Safety awareness amongst Commercial Vehicle (CV) drivers.
Commencing the drive in right earnest, Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA) has joined hands with Indian Synthetic Rubber P Ltd. (ISRPL), a joint venture of Indian Oil Corporation & TSRC – Taiwan for increasing tyre safety awareness amongst a large number of transporters and supply chain drivers associated with ISRPL.
A day-long session was held at Panipat Refinery campus of Indian Oil recently attended by drivers, logistics in-charge, fleet owners and top management of ISRPL. The session was held by ATMA in association with its technical partner Indian Tyre Technical Advisory Committee (ITTAC).
“It is the commercial vehicle drivers who drive the wheels of economy. ATMA TESS (Technology, Environment, Safety & Standards) Group felt a heightened need for training commercial vehicle drivers on tyre safety. We compliment ISRPL for coming forward and getting actively involved in training of its supply chain drivers,” said P K Mohamed, Convener ATMA TESS Group.
“Especially in North India, winters tend to get foggy. Commercial vehicles stranded on the roads could prove risky as it could lead to traffic snarls. We would wish that drivers take proactive measures to maintain their tyres so that down time could be minimised. Such training sessions held in an intimate setting also provide an opportunity to the drivers to clarify their doubts,” said Rajiv Budhraja, Director General ATMA.
“Specially designed training modules were prepared in vernacular languages for ease of training to CV drivers. Booklets on tyre care in vernacular languages were also distributed on the occasion. Based on the feedback received, we will modify the training modules,” said Dipankar Paul, Coordinator Safety, ATMA.
Showing commitment to the cause, top management of ISRPL including Joe Cheng ( Chief Operating Officer), Bishwajeet Bose (GM Marketing), Bibhuti Chowdhury (Head -Materials) and Lalit Sharma (Dy GM – Materials) participated in the Tyre safety session as a morale booster for the drivers.
In a series of Tyre Safety clinics over one year, more than 100 service engineers from ATMA member companies carried out safety checks covering over 22000 tyres across New Delhi, Chennai, Mysore, Chandigarh and Greater Noida. The survey found that over 60% of the cars do not have properly maintained tyre pressure which undermines safety and fuel efficiency.
ATMA members which have been participating in Tyre Safety campaigns include Apollo Tyres, Birla Tyres, Bridgestone India, CEAT, Continental India, Goodyear India, JK Tyre & Industries, Michelin, MRF, TVS Tyres and Yokohama.
ATMA is amongst the most active national industry bodies in the country representing Rs. 55000 crore (USD 8 bn) automotive tyre industry. Eleven large tyre companies comprising mix of Indian and International tyre majors and representing over 90% of production of tyres in India are members of the Association. (NewsVoir)

Artificial Intelligence holds a potential to add USD 957 billion to the Indian Economy

ArtificialIntelligence_dec17.jpg

Artificial Intelligence

New Delhi [India], Dec 17 (NewsVoir): While speaking at the AI & IoT India 2018 International Conference held in New Delhi recently, Mr. Ajay Prakash Sawhney, IAS, Secretary, Minstry of Electronics & IT said that India is expected to soon have data protection legislation and framework in place.
According to him, data is a primary resource for anything to do with analytics, with machine learning and with artificial intelligence.
The first edition of the international conference on AI and IoT India 2018 was organised by Bharat Exhibitions. The theme of the first edition of this conference was AI and IoT are at the core of India’s Digital Transformation.
IoT market in India is currently growing and is expected to reach USD 15 billion by the year 2020 and to USD 75 Billion by the year 2025. IoT growth is currently driven by industrial automation, primarily in sectors like telecom, healthcare, housing, agriculture and engineering. However, the consumer IoT market is gradually evolving with increasing awareness among people.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the other hand holds a potential to add US$ 957 billion to the Indian economy by changing the nature of work to create better outcomes for business and society. Thereby increasing its yearly growth rate of Gross Value Add (GVA) by 1.3 percentage points and also boosting the nation’s income by 15 percent by 2035.
TV Ramachandran, President, Broadband India Forum & Chairman, AI & IoT India Conference Committee set the ball rolling for this conference by mentioning that for India AI and IoT is an area of tremendous opportunity. “We are very proud of our achievements. The world is amazed at what we have done in mobile telecom space. Knowing the strength that India has, there are humongous opportunity for us in the AI space.”
Sharing insights regarding artificial intelligence, Mr. Anil Valluri, President – India and SAARC, NetApp said, “AI has always been there. What has changed with AI in the last two or three years and why there is so much focus on AI? It is because there is so much more data that we are generating and that data is now accessible to all of us. Also we are now able to handle large scale data and drive meaningful outcomes out of it.”
Yaduvendra Mathur, IAS, Additional Secretary, Knowledge Innovation Hub, NITI Aayog added that at NITI Aayog they have been working on preparing this discussion strategy for AI which they refer as ‘AI for all’ and also mentioned that priority should be to use AI for agriculture and healthcare because that is where the impact will come very quickly. He said, “NITI Aayog’s mandate is AI for all. How can AI make the transformation in the lives of common people? What happens when that inflection point comes when software starts writing software? In such a scenario, who will own the copyright or the patents? Can the patents be held by machines?”
While there are many opportunities that lie in the field of AI and IoT, there are also many open challenges.
