The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Advisory Committee for Women’s Services (ACWS) will hold an open meeting on February 14, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Eastern at SAMHSA’s main office in Rockville, Maryland. The meeting will include a discussion on assessing SAMHSA’s current strategies related to women with behavioral health needs who are either in the criminal justice system or experiencing homelessness. Additionally, the ACWS will be speaking with the Assistant Secretary of Mental Health and Substance Abuse regarding priorities and directions for behavioral health services and access for women and children. The meeting may be attended in person or via telephone, and pre-registration is requested.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for up to $13.4 million in grants to establish or expand programs that divert adults with serious mental illness or a co-occurring mental and substance use disorder from the criminal justice system to community-based services prior to arrest and booking. Up to eight grants will be awarded through the Law Enforcement and Behavioral Health Partnerships for Early Diversion (Early Diversion Grants) program. Special consideration will be given to applicants proposing to use grant funding to support early diversion services for veterans.
