Dormify Is Here to Help You Design Your Dream Dorm

August 9, 2017 @ 10:45 AM

For the under-22 set (and their parents), August is often a one-track-mind month—think countless trips to Staples, scoping out this year’s hottest new backpacks, and packing what feels like your entire life for another year of college. College prep stress is real, especially for freshmen about to enter the great unknown, some moving out for the first time. But thanks to Dormify, a one-stop-shop for fashion-minded small-space decorating, you can rest assured that designing your dorm room is one thing you won’t need to stress over.

Founded by mother-daughter-duo Karen and Amanda Zuckerman, Dormify offers adorable and chic throw pillows, bedding, wall posters, closet organization, and desk décor galore that can turn a drab space into the dorm room of your dreams. You can shop by item or collection on the company’s website, but if the online experience feels overwhelming, never fear—Dormify’s got you there as well with in-person consultations.

The curated, one-on-one design sessions are held by appointment with Dormify stylists (among them co-founder Amanda Zuckerman) at its N.Y.C. showroom, where you’ll collaborate to choose a color scheme or theme and design a room that’s 100% you. “The big advantage is that you’ll get to see and touch all your favorite pieces in person and really get to work with the products hands on,” Dormify CPO Stephanie Kimel told InStyle. “Your stylist will help you order any pieces you love straight from our website.”

If you book an appointment, prepare to spend about an hour in the showroom so that every detail is ironed out and ready to go by move-in day, Kimel advises. Oh, and did we mention the stylist sessions are free, and clients get a discount on purchases made at the showroom? I believe “jackpot” is the term you’re looking for.

Personal attention is key to the Dormify mentality: “For each appointment, we turn over the showroom to fit your style, taste, and preferences so that when you come in, you’re walking into this customized experience,” says Kimel. “Through[out] the appointment, we’ll switch out the bedding or pillows and change up the wall art based on our conversation.”

Beyonce JAY-Z andKelly Rowland Form the Coolest Workout Crew

Days after getting her heart rate going during an impossibly cool roller skating date with hubby, JAY-Z, new mom Beyoncé continued to work up a sweat with a SoulCycle class on Tuesday.

After giving birth to her twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, just eight weeks ago, the “Feeling Myself” hitmaker has reportedly been getting back into the workout groove post-baby slowly, with the help of her rapper husband and longtime BFF Kelly Rowland.

The powerhouse couple, who were spotted getting their sweat on at a SoulCycle class just two weeks earlier, took matching athletic dressing to the next level, as they both opted for cream hoodies and dark leggings, while Rowland flaunted her toned abs in a gray sports bra by Calvin Klein, fitted black shorts, and Nike sneakers.

Chloë Grace Moretz Has Some More Stuff To Say About Kim Kardashian

Advertisement – Continue Reading Below

Okay, so really the strangest Kardashian-Jenner social media fight of 2016 was the back-and-forth between Kim and Bette Midler. But! A close second was Kim’s Twitter feud Chloë Moretz, over a naked selfie Kim had shared. If you’ll recall, Moretz chastised Kim for sharing a nude photo of herself on Twitter instead of teaching girls the importance of “setting goals,” and, taking no prisoners, Kim responded, “let’s all welcome @ChloeGMoretz to twitter, since no one knows who she is.”

(Moretz also got into it with Khloe Kardashian over Kim’s internet-breaking “Famous” Snapchats. Later in 2016, Moretz told The Hollywood Reporter she regretted giving the Kardashians her attention.)

Now, over a year later, Moretz revisits the feud in Variety’s Power of Young Hollywood issue, saying, “It’s sad for [Kim] to reach out like that to a young woman. There’s a lot of woman-on-woman hate.” (This is a textbook of example of how to make more beef out of what’s ostensibly a beef-squashing moment.)

On the flipside, Moretz, Variety explains, is all about “sisterhood.” Her fellow actress and good friend Zoey Deutch is quoted in the piece saying some nice things about her thusly: “I think there’s an assumption that all actresses are competitive, and maybe some are,” Deutch told Variety. “But Chloë is so supportive almost to a degree that’s unimaginable.”

Aside from the Kardashian drama, Moretz also told Variety about a time she was fat-shamed on the set of one of her movies by a male costar:

“This guy that was my love interest was like, ‘I’d never date you in real life,’ and I was like, ‘What?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, you’re too big for me’—as in my size,” Moretz said. “It was one of the only actors that ever made me cry on set.” Although she didn’t reveal his identity, she said she was 15 at the time, and he was in his mid-20s.

Along with body-shaming, Moretz has also faced sexism in her industry. “Even if you’re being paid equally, it’s the little things, especially if the male lead is bigger than you,” she told Variety. “You aren’t listened to as much, and you take a backseat.” And on one occasion, she says she lost out on a movie role because the studio had already cast one blond actress, and felt they couldn’t have two. Umm… hair dye, people?! (And less sexist nonsense, please.)

Kate Moss Is Launching Her Own Makeup Palette

Supermodel Kate Moss has fronted about as many beauty campaigns as you’d imagine—self-tanners, skincare, haircare, you name it. She even launched a line of best-selling drugstore lipsticks for Rimmel London. But now Moss has teamed up with the super-luxe Japanese beauty brand Decorté, which is making its debut in North America at Saks Fifth Avenue, to launch a makeup palette of her must-have lip, eye, and brow products.

Inside the sleek black pouch of the Kate Moss Favorites kit are six silky-smooth powder shadows in neutral taupes, browns, and one “moss” green. All are shimmery—not sparkly—and easily buildable. There are also four matte lipsticks in Moss’s iconic shades: two pinky nudes, one classic red, and a berry mauve. There are also a lip pencil, inky liquid eyeliner, brow pencil, and three applicator brushes inside. The makeup kit will be available exclusive at Saks Fifth Avenue later this month, but it’s available for pre-order now (scroll down) if you just can’t wait. Ahead, see what Moss had to say about her trick for the perfect eyeliner (it sounds a lot easier than it really is), and how her approach to makeup has changed over the years.

Decorté Kate Moss Favorites set, $190,

Harper’s Bazaar: You’ve had so many major hair and beauty moments over the years—is there one that sticks out as your favorite? Why? Do you have a least favorite look?

Kate Moss: My favorite hair and make up look is from the Italian Vogue story I shot with Nick Knight in December 2010. Sam made me feel so glamorous with the brunette wig and Val worked her magic with the ’60s flick.

What was this collaboration process like for the palette? Why did you choose these particular colors and textures?

Decorté gave me complete creative control with the palette. I chose shades that work for every day but added richer colors to give you the option to go for a stronger look. I love the semi-matte texture of the lip quad, it lasts all day whilst conditioning your lips too.

What is your secret to the perfect, smudgy, Kate Moss eyeliner application?

To get the perfect eyeliner I pull up the corner of my eye, follow the lash line with my Decorté liquid liner then run my finger over to smudge the edges.

How has your approach to makeup changed over the years? Is there something you do more—or less—of now?

These days its all about glowing skin, keeping it light and natural. I always use my eyelash curler to open my eyes before applying mascara and have started using a pencil to define my brows so have included that in the kit too.

What beauty advice or hair and makeup philosophy do you hope to pass on to your daughter?

My best beauty advice would be to wear high factor sunscreen at all times when in the sun.

The Met Gala's 2018 Theme May Be Its Most Controversial Yet

Though its opening next May is nearly a year away, the theme for The Met’s 2018 Costume Institute exhibition has reportedly been revealed.

As WWD reports, ‘Fashion and Religion’ will be the focus of next year’s exhibit and gala, according to multiple sources. The museum has not officially confirmed the news yet, but the idea for the project reportedly came about well before the current exhibit, “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: The Art of the In-Between” opened.

Many designers including Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Jeremy Scott have referenced religion in their collections over the years, which means there’s a vast array of religious-inspired looks to potentially be curated.

According to WWD‘s sources, the exhibition is still in the early stages of planning, but it will be a “serious and ambitious” project. This means the Met Gala red carpet will follow suit, which should prove interesting for the tricky, potentially controversial theme.
