UCF Narrowly Misses Upset Win Over Duke in Sweet 16 Bid

1553470742_d24abe3ffb2f6a64af4738128e32e683.jpg

In a score of 76-77, Duke almost took the ‘L’ in a high-energy game which saw the University of Central Florida giving the No. 1 seeded squad a true run for their money.

A missed layup ultimately sealed the fate of the Knights as the Blue Devils now advance to their 31st Sweet 16 appearance. In no small part, it was Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett who led their team to such a close win. Williamson has Barrett to thank for a rebound on a missed shot that would lead to a game-tying free throw.

Elsewhere, the matchup between Zion and UCF’s Tacko Fall came to an end when Williamson drew Fall’s fifth foul of the game, sending him to the bench after a performance that pulled 15 points, six rebounds and three blocks just ahead of the game’s finish.

Naturally, social media’s reaction to the high-intensity game is one that finds many calling the win a cheated one, with critics declaring that the referees have, once again, favored Duke in an advancement that was inevitable for the team no matter who they faced.

What this ultimately signals is that fans will be able to watch Zion Williamson play at least one more college game before he officially declares for the draft. Next up, Duke will face off with the victor of the Virginia Tech and Liberty match taking place Sunday.

Lebron James Promises Lakers Fans That The "Spell Won't Last Much Longer"

GettyImages-1134156100.jpg

This season, the Los Angeles Lakers once again found themselves left out of this year’s playoffs despite the expected entry that they were slated to nab with Lebron James heading up the squad.

Such hopes were dashed when a groin injury forced James to miss 17 straight games in the regular season, with the Lakers going 6-11 in that spree. Ultimately, the team fell out of the playoff race with an 111-106 loss to the Brooklyn Nets, marking the first time since 2005 that James will not be heading to the playoffs. ’05 marked James’s sophomore season with the Cavs.

“Obviously, it’s been a tough season for all of us,” James told CBS Sports. “It’s not what we signed up for. Throughout the year, things happened. Suspensions, injuries, things of that nature. And just not being able to play sustainable basketball for 48 minutes. But you don’t even try to wrap your head around it, you just keep pushing.”

With the Lakers facing their sixth straight year without a playoff appearance, it’s easy for those who call themselves fans to get discouraged. Nonetheless, Lebron James took to social media assure them that the drought wouldn’t last for long: “Believe me! Promise #LakerNation the spell won’t last much longer,” he penned on Instagram. “I swear. The marathon continues.”

Big Kaino Rides His Own Wave With "On Me" Track

1553484402_3ae3a344e8569a1ef5cd08d25c055dee.jpg

The meteoric rise of rap stars these days isn’t too rare a sight to witness anymore and the next rapper to emerge from SoundCloud’s fortress, Big Kaino, seems to follow a familiar pattern that suggests the same for his career. After dropping off his “Asshole” debut single in 2018, nabbing a No Jumper cosign and reportedly turning down a Def Jam deal in the process, Kaino returns this year to capitalize on the momentum with his latest “On Me” track.

While Big Kaino has split his time between Georgia and Florida, one can’t help but draw comparisons from his sound and that of Chicago’s drill scene as copious amounts of energy and a certain level of indifference characterize Kaino when he hops over the Xan Moschino-produced backdrop on this one.

Get into “On Me” down below.

Quotable Lyrics

Kaino, he’s the fucking worst
Do you dirt and come in first
Momma told me, “N-gga, shit ain’t free,
So you better work”

Junglepussy’s JP3 got here in May of last year, and now the artist has returned to deliver on a vehicle to underscore the effort and introduce another creative endeavor with her JPtv project. In a staged reality television series, Junglepussy uses the track “I’m In Love” as the premise to undergo the identity of host Blackberry Love as she comedically gets to the bottom of the relationship issues shared between her guest: three women and their common lover, Sean.

“I see myself in everyone around me,” Junglepussy tells PAPER of the thematic elements of the new clip. “I’m open to everything but I quickly build a wall when I feel like my worth is being compromised. I’m always exploring the journey from initial attraction to utter destruction, and the unraveling of our layers in between.”

Former "Voice" Contestant Briar Blakley Unleashes Debut "Retro Future" EP

1553485649_88e930cc5f379162646fff99ed66470d.jpeg

Season 8 alum of The Voice, Briar Blakley has officially issued her debut effort with Retro Future Volume 1 EP. The project’s title more so doubles as an effective description of Blakely’s sound, as she delves within retro contemporary influences, mixing old with new, blending genres, and creating a wonderfully left-of-center project that leaves her among the voices infusing new and refreshing elements to the realm of R&B and Soul.

Retro Future, Vol. 1 is a nostalgic EP with vibrations of psychedelic, disco, electric soul, and ‘70s and ‘80s era classics,” says Briar. “In creating this project, I was inspired by artists like Tame Impala, HAIM, Toro Y Moi and Kanye West because of how they lean into their niche. Because creating music is a sacred process for me, it was important for me to be boldly artistic and lean into my own sound instead of following trends.”

Pink Sweat$ Doubles Down With "Coke & Henny, Part 1"

1553480433_f8be99918cb7b33933393e5868978403.jpg

Earlier this year, Pink Sweat$ began the rollout for his Volume 2 EP, gifting fans with “I Know,” a guitar-driven cut geared toward a much more folksy and blues-inspired sound and now he maintains the vibe of the offering in his latest “Coke & Henny, Part 1” track.

With Volume 2 slated for release on Friday, March 28th, the Philly-bred singer and songwriter is still relying on minimal backdrops to deliver on an alternative entry to the current climate of R&B and Soul. As the title implies, the new cut is a lyrical exploration of the thoughts induced by such a formidable combination of spirits and carbonated dilution as Pink begins: “Coca-cola in my Hennessy/Girl I like it when you’re touching me.”

Listen to “Coke & Henny, Part 1” down below.

Quotable Lyrics

Girl you’re all I see, check it
Sugar, sugar won’t you give me some?
Baby I’ll be sipping till it’s done
A little buzzed baby, I ain’t drunk
But you’re still all I need, yeah

Mario Celebrates Love In New Clip For "Care For You" Track

1553479733_c933f79d73ae8833a28de6d122eb1be4.jpg

Last year marked the beginning of a well-crafted comeback for crooner Mario when he delivered on his Dancing Shadows album, his first full-length offering in nearly a decade.

The project found Mario reverting to the essential talent that thrust him in the spotlight to begin with, once more allowing his emotions to run deep and opening us up to a matured artist who, even without the bright spotlight, can still prove his worth in the long game.

Now, Mario revisits Dancing Shadows and has presented us with the new music video to attach to project select “Care For You,” an earnest balald that finds the 32-year-old owning up to his shortcomings and pleading for his love to look past them. Interestingly, the new clip strays from romance, choosing, instead, to highlight the relationship shared between a mother and son as Mario wades in the background.
