Netflix Shares Images From Chadwick Boseman’s Final Film, ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’

Chadwick Boseman - Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

Netflix has released a few amazing photos from Chadwick Boseman‘s final film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and fans can’t get over the excellence-—even in still images.

On Wednesday (Sept 30), the streaming powerhouse took to social media to share the images along with the release date to the film, which is produced by legendary actor Denzel Washington and directed by George C. Wolfe, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom stars Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman in his final film performance.

During an interview with the New York Times, both Davis and Washington recall their time working with Boseman on the film recalling his phenomenal stage presence and work ethic.

“He did a brilliant job, and he’s gone,” said Denzel Washington. “I still can’t believe it.”

Chadwick Boseman, who passed in August after a private battle with stage 4 colon cancer, has been remembered by several colleagues as a genuine soul, but Viola Davis says that Boseman’s personal presence and determination exceeds anything that anyone could describe of him and his tenacious work ethic.

“A lot of actors mistake their presence for the event,” Davis said. “An actor of Chadwick’s status usually comes on and it’s their ego who comes on before them: This is what they want, this is what they’re not going to do. That was absolutely, 150 percent off the table with Chadwick. He could completely discard whatever ego he had, whatever vanity he had, and welcome Levee in.”

The Academy Award-winning actress also touched on how exhausted Boseman seemed during the filming process before noting how his team supported him throughout filming without ever revealing his diagnosis.

“I’m looking back at how tired he always seemed,” Davis continued. “I look at his beautiful, unbelievable team that was meditating over him and massaging him, and I now realize everything they were trying to infuse in him to keep him going and working at his optimal level. And he received it.”

Netflix’s hotly-anticipated film adaptation of August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom stars Davis as the titular Ma Rainey, a Black singer dubbed the “Mother of Blues,” as she deals with white music-industry execs. Boseman plays her trumpet player “Levee”, who wants to put a contemporary spin on Ma Rainey’s songs. While the film has not been formally reviewed, Buchanan referred to Boseman’s performance as “a revelation” before adding that his interpretation of the character “Levee” is “practically assured of Oscar recognition,” adding that the final performance is “Boseman’s finest screen performance.”

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom officially releases on Netflix, December 18, 2020.

Dr. Dre Wins Legal Battle In Tension Filled Divorce With Ex-Wife, Won’t Have To Pay $1.5M

16015957654107.jpg

City Of Hope Gala - Arrivals

Dr. Dre and his legal team scored a victory in the on-going divorce proceedings with the Straight Outta Compton’s producer’s ex-wife, Nicole Young.

A judge ruled on Thursday (October 1) that Nicole Young’s request for $1.5 million in order to cover various expenses has been denied. In addition, the judge also dismissed her request to expedite Dre shelling out $5 million for her lawyer’s fees. Young argued the $1.5 million claim was for security since she’s received death threats since announcing her divorce from the Beats mogul.

In the ruling, the judge declined Young’s request due in part because she let her security team go, an expense Dre was already paying for. Young alleged Dre had been controlling and wanted to bring on her own security team and Dre warned he would fire her security if they didn’t do what he commanded. The judge did accept the argument from Dre’s lawyers the longtime mogul is inclined to pay his estranged wife’s expenses.

The judge remarked he was working on more crucial cases such as domestic violence and child custody and hat Young’s case regarding her husband isn’t anywhere as serious. If she contended Dre was trying to be controlling, she could file a restraining order against him.

It’s unclear if the $1.5 million claim which the judge rejected is the same as the $2 million a month in temporary spousal support request.

Did Da Brat’s Girlfriend Jesseca Dupart Shade LisaRaye After Viral Interview?

1f440.png

After Da Brat attempted to surprise sister LisaRaye to wish her a happy birthday on her Fox Soul show Cocktails With Queens and it went left, people had a lot of thoughts on the matter.

One person whose feelings you may have wondered about is Jesseca Dupart, Da Brat’s girlfriend. Their relationship was part of the reason LisaRaye and DaBrat weren’t speaking, specifically because of the fact that the actress found out about it like everyone else on social media.

Dupart, the CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products, posted a picture of herself with Brat, looking as though she was being pulled back by the rapper. The caption read “MOOD,” and “nah what was said.” She would go on to delete the post and instead, put up a meme in her Instagram Story that read, “Don’t waste words on people who deserve your silence. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is nothing.”

During that viral moment between LisaRaye and Da Brat, the actress said she hadn’t heard from her sister since December, and that she found out about her coming out and being in a relationship with Dupart on social media. Da Brat said that was because “I was kind of scared to talk to her about it.” Still, LisaRaye said she was hurt by the way things had played out.

“I just wish that I was included in that,” she said. “I wish that I knew what that was. I wish I could have a say in that myself. I wish that I knew what was going on, but I don’t. So then I sit and I wait.”

Despite the tense exchange with her sister, LisaRaye said she knows they will work things out eventually.

“That’s my sister! That ain’t goin’ nowhere,” she said. “Oh hell nah, she ain’t goin nowhere, I ain’t goin nowhere. I just have to wait until she feel comfortable to tell me about life. Her life! Because I thought that I would know, but evidently I had to take a step back and I’m just trying to figure out how far back to step. That’s all.”

As far as Dupart’s feelings on the issues between the two, if we learned anything from how LisaRaye cursed out everybody on the video call, this situation may not be one that she wants to get involved in. But for the record, Dupart and LisaRaye knew each other before the beauty mogul started dating her sister, per an interview we had with her earlier this year.

“I met her before she even met my sister,” LisaRaye told us in April. “She and I were doing some videos for her Kaleidoscope products because she was actually a fan. So we reenacted a Player’s Club scene and did a couple of videos together. So when she reached out to have my sister try her drops, then they actually made a rapport with each other and built a friendship. What came out of that is what we see on Instagram now.”

Maybe she could help bring the sisters together after all.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are mourning the loss of their son, one month after the couple announced they were pregnant with their third child.

The couple, who are parents to daughter Luna, 4 and son Miles, 2, shared the news on Wednesday (September 30), detailing that Teigen’s bleeding couldn’t be stopped, “despite bags and bags of blood transfusions.”

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough,” Teigen wrote on Instagram.

“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital,” she continued, sharing some black-and-white photos from the hospital. “But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”

“To our Jack – I’m so sorry that the first few moments of your life were met with so many complications, that we couldn’t give you the home you needed to survive. We will always love you,” the grieving mom wrote. “Thank you to everyone who has been sending us positive energy, thoughts and prayers. We feel all of your love and truly appreciate you.”

Legend shared Teigen’s post on Twitter and wrote, “We love you, Jack.”

Teigen was put on bed rest in late September and was hospitalized due to excessive bleeding from her placenta. The couple has been married since 2013 and have been open about how their relationship has strengthened through their previous two pregnancies.

″[Parenthood] deepens your love for your partner because you see them in a different light going through, in our case, the trouble of actually having a kid,” Legend told PEOPLE. “Then Chrissy’s going through postpartum depression. You just see different sides of that person, and if you go through it and you learn from it and you come out the other end better for it, then it deepens and strengthens your relationship.”
