Microsoft's Cortana scores worst in most voice assistant categories: Report

1545637764_Microsoft_22.jpg

Microsoft

Washington [United States], December 24 (ANI): Voice assistant-based smart speakers dominated this year. From one-of-the-firsts from Amazon getting better upgrades, some like Microsoft continued to lag.
According to Annual Smart Speaker IQ Test, Google Home, Apple HomePod, Amazon Echo, and Harman Kardon Invoke that uses Microsoft’s voice assistant, were judged based on the same set of 800 questions to determine whether it understands the question and whether it can respond it the right way.
Without much of a surprise, the Google Home outperformed all other assistants by answering 88 percent correctly and understanding all of the 800 questions across categories including Local, Commerce, Navigation, Information, and Command. However, Microsoft’s Cortana powering the Invoke misunderstood five questions and answered only 63 percent correctly, scoring the least across all categories.
Apple’s Siri came close second with 74.6 percent accuracy in answering and 99.6 percent in understanding the queries. Amazon’s Alexa stood third with 72.5 percent in accuracy and 99 percent in understanding.
The test also gauged how people are using the smart speakers. The results found out that the number one reason for using smart speaker is to listen to music. This is followed by searching for real-time information like weather, and factual information such as history. (ANI)

California [United States], December 24 (ANI): Facebook reportedly dropped a feature that was meant to encourage more peaceful political interaction over fears of bias allegations.
A report on Engadget notes that the feature called ‘Common Ground’ was a product of over a year’s worth of discussion and study. However, the company scrapped its development after global policy chief Joel Kaplan raised objections.
Common Ground would have altered News Feed rankings to boost posts that were commented, liked or shared by people across different political ideologies. It would have also downplayed comments that led to vitriolic discussions. (ANI)

Signs your online payment account has been hacked

onlineshoppingdec20.jpg

Representational Image

New Delhi [India], Dec 20 (ANI): We are banking and shopping online more than ever. And we love it!
But, it also means we are now more at risk of falling victim to Internet scammers. That’s why you should keep an eagle eye on your PayPal, Amazon, Google Checkout and other online payment accounts, so you can spot suspicious activity right away.
Look online and you will find lots of advice on what to do after your payment account has been compromised. But, what are the signs that your account has been cracked by cyber-criminals?
Here are some tips by Kaspersky Lab for keeping your money safe:
-Watch for any unauthorised activity: Always know what transactions are expected. Even the smallest unauthorized transfer can be a danger sign.
-Don’t ignore notifications: If you get an email saying your account details have changed and you didn’t change them, your account may be compromised.
-Beware of bogus calls: If someone phones and claims to be from your payment provider, insist on calling them back on the company’s public phone number.
-Don’t trust the text: If you suddenly start getting messages or calls from a mobile number that your provider doesn’t normally use-be very suspicious.
-Check every email: If an email or other online communication doesn’t look genuine, don’t reply to it without checking with your provider.
-Look out for bogus links: If you see strange activity on your account, check to see if you’ve clicked any suspicious links in your email recently.
You should also make sure that you have a good Internet security program, with secure online banking functions. The most sophisticated cyber-criminals can also use an attack called a man-in-the-browser attack. In this kind of exploit, malware on your PC invisibly modifies legitimate web pages in order to take control of your online banking activity.
The web address you are looking at will be correct, and you will be logged in to your bank’s legitimate website, but cyber-criminals will be able to intercept the transaction, steal your financial details and, more importantly, your money.
The only way to completely protect yourself against man-in-the-browser attacks and other sophisticated types of cybercrime is with an advanced Internet security suite. (ANI)
