Web Extra: Prince Death Investigation

The sheriff’s office said it was investigating the circumstances of his death, and Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson scheduled a news conference for 3 p.m. (4 p.m. ET, 2000 GMT).

Looks like it’s going to be a while longer until we know for sure how Prince died – but we do know he didn’t take his own life and wasn’t a victim of foul play.

Olson’s office was among the agencies who responded to calls for help.

He was found by staff members on Thursday morning, more than 12 hours after he was last seen alive when he was dropped off at Paisley Park. They made the 911 call at 9:43 a.m. “We’ll do a complete and thorough investigation, and it’s better with this, for us to do it well than for us to do it fast”.

TMZ reported last week that Prince’s flight made an emergency landing early April 15 in Moline, Illinois, where he was briefly hospitalized. Asked about the unconscious person, he said: “It’s Prince“.

The Sheriff said that the 57-year-old was alone at the premises when he died. “I can tell you this: What I know is that he was perfectly healthy”, said Smith, who formed a band with Prince when they were kids.

She had contacted him only a few days ago, she added, to tell him she was building a school in his honour.

Still, she says Prince “really took care of himself”, including eating well. The local medical examiner’s office said in a tweet that an autopsy had been scheduled for Friday.

“There was no obvious signs of trauma at all”, Olson said.

The multihyphenate performer, who was found dead at his Paisley Park abode in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on Thursday, April 21, gave it his all in his final performance, closing out the night with an emotional rendition of his 1984 hit “Purple Rain”.

The medical examiner’s report will include Prince’s medical history, his social history and that of his family.

The sheriff warned that full results from the post-mortem could take several weeks, and the incident was still under investigation.

Prince earlier this month had canceled concerts at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, which said at the time that the entertainer was suffering from the flu. “He could shoot for two days straight”, McElhatton said.

Olson also said that no medical calls came from Paisley Park regarding Prince or within the past year.

She also thanked members of the media and the public for respecting the privacy of Prince’s family and close friends.

There was “no reason to believe that this was a suicide“, Olson said. Medical personnel performed CPR at the scene but were unable to revive him, and he was declared dead shortly after 10am. His deputies continue their investigation into Prince’s death. TMZ later reported that drug was the painkiller Percocet, which he had been taking for a hip problem.

Prince’s body has been cremated in a private family ceremony, according to reports.
