UFC’s Conor McGregor tweets he’s retiring young

“He’s in Iceland training”.

“He’s in Iceland training and he felt leaving right now would hurt his training and getting ready for this fight”.

White confirmed that these promotional responsibilities are mandatory, leading the UFC with no other choice than to pull the Irishman from the card.

“We’ve had instances like this before – I did it to Nick Diaz when he didn’t attend a press conference before he fought George St Pierre“. Even if you don’t know anything about the UFC, you might recognize him, he’s on SportsCenter all the time as that little Irish guy who talks a LOT of trash.

A number of responses to McGregor’s tweet show many of his followers believe the announcement is a publicity stunt. “Only he can answer that question”, he replied. McGregor went 7-1 in his eight UFC fights, including three 2015 knockout wins over Dennis Siver, Chad Mendes, and Jose Aldo. He won’t be able to find two better promoters than Nate Diaz and McGregor for the fight which means the company will likely lose out on some money as a result.

White shared his side of the story, saying Conor was pulled due to him to refusing to participate in any promotional events, which was taking place in Las Vegas.

“Conor did not want to come to Las Vegas and film the commercial and be a part of any of marketing we have”.

The victor was scheduled to get the first shot at a unification fight against McGregor.

White said Diaz is flying into Las Vegas on Tuesday and they will discuss a new opponent. “I don’t know”, White added.

White couldn’t speculate whether or not McGregor was serious about his retirement and said he would leave that decision up to the current featherweight champion.

“I guess my work here is done”, Diaz posted.
