Many unauthorized immigrants see a favorable ruling as a potential path to freedom. “DAPA applies to immigrant parents of United States citizens and DACA applies to childhood arrivals”.

Arguments were held in the Supreme Court Monday in United States v. Texas, the intensely fought legal battle regarding President Obama’s executive actions on immigration that he made in November of 2014. The arguments highlighted the fact that this is a political dispute about enforcement policies, not the type of legal dispute that should be before the Supreme Court. Most of his order is simply an exercise of longstanding executive discretion in deciding when to enforce federal laws….

But this week, the U.S. Supreme Court is considering whether to allow some undocumented immigrants to stay for a limited period and apply to work legally. She was on her own and said she struggled with a lot of the things undocumented students do.

Obama took the action after House of Representatives Republicans killed bipartisan legislation, billed as the biggest overhaul of US immigration laws in decades and providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, that was passed by the Senate in 2013.

About 85% of Michigan families with undocumented parents have children who are USA citizens, says Susan Reed, managing attorney with the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center. The couple has a 4-year-old child. She’s hopeful that plan for her parents will become reality so she doesn’t live in fear of them being deported.

In Los Angeles – roughly 400-thousand people would benefit from Obama’s programs – 1.4 million across the state, according to Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles. This month, the court granted a lawyer for the House of Representatives, which supports the challengers, 15 minutes to present arguments on that issue.
