Pearl Jam Cancel North Carolina Concert to Protest Anti-LGBTQ Bill

The legendary rock band from Seattle, Pearl Jam, has canceled a North Carolina concert scheduled for April 20, in a protest against the state’s recently passed law against the LGBT community.

It’s been about 4 weeks since North Carolina’s Governor Pat McCrory signed the bigoted House Bill 2 into law, taking away LGBT employment discrimination protection and keeping transgender students from using the bathroom associated with the gender they identify as.

Pearl Jam continued in the statement that they plan to donate money to local organizations who oppose the law.

“The practical implications are expansive and its negative impact upon basic human rights profound”.

“I can’t tell from here if you’re booing North Carolina or if you’re booing us for having to decide that we’re not going to play there”, Vedder said.

Whether he ever schedules another show in North Carolina “would definitely depend on whether that stupid law is repealed”, said Buffett.

“The North Carolina and MS laws, and similar legislation proposed in other states, perverts the meaning of religious liberty and perpetuates homophobia, transphobia, marginalizes the transgender and gay community and has no place in our society”, Martin R. Castro, chairman of the commission, said in a statement Monday.

Wake County, the second-largest county in North Carolina, has been especially affected as it is home to the PNC arena in Raleigh.

It should also be noted that Springsteen is among the artists that have also made a decision to boycott North Carolina over the HB2 legislation.

Last month, state legislators in a special session passed the Public Facilities and Privacy Act, requiring single-sex multiple-occupancy bathrooms or changing facilities to be designated for and used by individuals based on their biological sex. They have a reason to be p*ssed, and we’re p*ssed off too. “It was a hard process because we though we could still play and make things right and we could fortify all the people on the ground working to repeal this despicable law“.

Attorneys are adding a transgender high school student to a lawsuit challenging a new North Carolina law just days after a federal appeals court sided with a transgender student in a Virginia case.
