Ohio search continues after eight killed execution-style

Authorities set up road blocks around the crime scene in rural OH yesterday. Evidence is now being processed at Bureau of Criminal Investigations labs.

Police detained a “person of interest” in Chillicothe late Friday for questioning, but Ohio Attorney General DeWine said the person was one of 30 people interviewed in connection with the case, some of whom were from Chillicothe, located about 40 miles northeast of the crime scenes.

“The investigation is still in its early stages, and no arrests have been made”, the statement said.

Investigators say they’ve questioned more than 30 people.

All victims were shot in the head, authorities said, and it appeared some were killed as they slept.

“There is a threat there and I believe that threat to be armed and unsafe”, Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader said. That child, along with a 6-month-old and a 3-year-old, survived the killings. The woman had driven to the house and discovered the horrifying scene.

Authorities said all the victims were members of the Rhoden, but they declined to provide any more information about them or the status of the investigation.

Authorities have yet to make any arrests. Three children, all under the age of three including a newborn, survived. It sent more than a dozen agents to assist the Pike County Sheriff’s Office after the request for help came in at 8:21 a.m.

Anyone that may have information about the shootings is encouraged to call either 1-855-BCI-OHIO or the Pike County Sheriff’s Office at 740-947-2111, the release states. The call is punctuated by her stopping to catch her breath and crying.

“I first heard about it this morning from our mail carrier”, Hilderbran said.

“I think they’re both dead”.

In another 911 call, a man says: “I just found my cousin with a gunshot wound”.

Gov. John Kasich tweeted: “Reports we are receiving from Peebles are tragic beyond comprehension”.

Police have also released new details on the Pike County murders, including the frightened 911 phone call that first alerted authorities to the killings. The partial lockdown meant no students were allowed outside and doors are locked. “But we pull together when tragedy happens, and we come out stronger”. The incident was in the Scioto Valley District and was on the south side of 32, not the north side (our side).

“When people die like that and people bleed, we all do, all over the country”, Kasich said Friday in CT. “And, you know, there’s different theories that we’re looking at, or different possibilities based upon some of the different facts that we know, but I really can’t say much beyond that”. “They want to thank all law enforcement from Pike County and all surrounding counties for their immediate response”, Kimberly Newman, victim advocate and program director for the Adams County Victim Assistance Program, told reporters.
