Obama flies to Queen’s castle to wish her happy 90th birthday

The Obamas landed aboard Marine One in a large grassy field, with the fairy tale Windsor Castle in the background, before the queen and Philip arrived to greet them in a black Range Rover.

At the Windsor Castle luncheon, the queen donned a periwinkle blue suit while Mrs. Obama wore an Oscar de la Renta print dress topped with a dark purple Narciso Rodriguez coat.

U.S. President Barack Obama flew to Queen Elizabeth’s castle on Friday to wish the world’s oldest monarch, who had turned 90 the day before, a happy birthday.

When the Queen hosted the Obamas at Buckingham Palace in 2011, the First Lady was seen putting her arm around the monarch’s waist, showing how the women had become firm friends.

A bonus for Obama was the chance to meet Prince George, William’s almost 3-year-old son. Inside, the queen led the group into a sitting room warmed by a fire and asked the president where he wanted to sit.

Later on Friday, the president and the first lady met the younger generation of royals – the queen’s grandson Prince William and his wife Kate, and William’s younger brother Harry – for a dinner at Kensington Palace in central London, with all dressed casually for the occasion.

Obama was likely to face fresh questions about Britain’s possible exit from the European Union, dubbed Brexit, at Saturday’s town hall.

Former Liberal Democrat leader Menzies Campbell says Johnson’s comment are “an unacceptable smear”, while Labour Party lawmaker Diane Abbott says that “Boris dismissing president Obama as “half-Kenyan” reflects the worst Tea Party rhetoric”.

The Obama brought a gift: A photo album of the queen’s many visits with USA president and first ladies. “And precisely because Britain’s values and institutions are so strong and so sound, we want to make sure that that influence is heard, that it’s felt, that it influences how other countries think about critical issues”.

Over the past decades Britain’s head of state has made numerous trips across the Atlantic, from her first in 1951, as Princess Elizabeth, which saw her tour George Washington’s historic Mount Vernon estate and meet President Harry S Truman. On the White House Facebook Thursday, Obama wrote about Prince’s death, calling the artist a “creative icon”.

He went on: “As for her Majesty, the Queen has been a source of inspiration like so many people around the world”.

The vehicle stopped at the sovereign’s entrance and Mr Obama got out first and waited for the Queen and his wife.

A palace spokesman at the time described the scene at the ladies’ first meeting as a “mutual and spontaneous display of affection”. In 2015, they met at a US military base to highlight their shared interest in the needs of military families and wounded service members.

As the Obamas arrived, to be greeted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry in the courtyard of 1A Kensington Palace, t he president shouted “oh there you are – hello”.
