Dr Tom Frieden, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said there was enough evidence for the confirmed finding. Symptoms can be a rash, headache or joint pain.

The CDC’s announcement doesn’t change the agency’s recommendations for preventing the sexual transmission of Zika virus, which can be spread through semen and blood.

Having confirmed what the mounting evidence had suggested, officials reiterated the need for pregnant women and their partners to take steps to avoid Zika infection.

A top USA health official stated recently that the mosquito with Zika virus, Aedes aegypti, is present in about 30 states in the continental U.S.

Microcephaly is a condition that causes babies to be born with abnormally small heads and underdeveloped brains.

While mosquitos are still the primary vector for spreading Zika virus, the new report hints that we have more to learn about other modes of transmission.

The unnamed man that contracted the infection is said to have had intercourse with another man who returned with Zika virus infection from Venezuela. “We know that most STIs can be transmitted through anal sex and oral sex as well as vaginal sex”, says Brooks.

There have been 346 confirmed cases of Zika in the continental United States, according to the CDC, all associated with travel.

There have been a total of six cases reported in Dallas County, three in Tarrant County and one in Denton County.

Most people infected with zika virus do not get sick.

NY – U.S. health officials say there’s no longer any doubt that the Zika virus causes severe birth defects.

◦ Before you or your male partner travel, talk to your doctor about your plans to become pregnant and the risk of zika virus infection.

For example, one analysis of a Zika outbreak in French Polynesia indicated that about 1% of women infected with Zika during pregnancy would give birth to children with microcephaly.

Zika, which can also be sexually transmitted, has been sweeping through Latin America and the Caribbean in recent months, with fears that the number of cases will increase during the summer.
