Michelle McNamara, writer and wife of Patton Oswalt, dies

She passed away in her sleep at the couple’s home in Los Angeles on Thursday (21Apr16).

Late Friday night news broke that Michelle McNamara, crime writer and wife of comedian Patton Oswalt, had died suddenly at the age of 46.

McNamara was a graduate from the University of Notre Dame and she later on attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a masters in creative writing.

While the general interest in crime tends to be towards celebrity or high-profile killers, McNamara said she was drawn towards the less-publicized cases.

Patton Oswalt is mourning the death of his wife Michelle McNamara.

She started the website nearly by chance, because she wanted to satisfy her own curiosity of unsolved crimes.

Two of the cold cases that McNamara wrote about were one in which she covered the murder of Melanie Howell, a nurse that was killed in 1976 and also the case of the Golden State Killer.

Oswalt and McNamara got married in 2005 and welcomed a daughter named Alice in 2009.

Patton Oswalt and Michelle McNamara attend the “Young Adult” world premiere after party at the Hudson Terrace on December 8, 2011 in New York City.
