Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian keen to take ‘big FA Cup chance’

More goals could have quickly followed as United, in a fashion so out of keeping with so much of their disappointing season to date, poured forward with intent.

The Italian, who joined the Red Devils from Torino last summer, initially managed to make his mark at Old Trafford before an injury slowed his progress.

The defender was the Reds’ star man on Wednesday night in the 2-0 league win over Crystal Palace after setting up the opener and blasting home a sublime volley for United’s second strike to open his goalscoring account for the club.

An early Damien Delaney own goal set the tone at Old Trafford, before Matteo Darmian’s first goal in United colours made sure of the outcome ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final showdown against Everton.

A potential preview of next months FA Cup Final saw Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian emerge as their attacking salvation, a fact that neatly sums up so numerous frustrations that have afflicted Louis van Gaals season.

“Yes, at the beginning my football was very good but sometimes it can happen, a period when we are not so good physically”.

With four games remaining, United is only two points behind third-place City and one behind Arsenal, which plays West Bromwich Albion on Thursday.

He has 21 caps and a goal for Italy to his name and has also represented the nation at various youth levels.

“We know also the importance of the game on Saturday against Everton – it’s a big game and now we have to prepare ourselves. We want to be ready for the fight, because I think it will be a hard game”.

“It’s the first time for me (to play at Wembley) so I’m really proud and it’s a big game”.

But while Klopp admitted that his team are enjoying their football, Origi’s injury took some of the gloss off the win and the German said that the margin of victory could be partly explained by Funes Mori’s exit. Every player wants to play in this kind of game, but the manager chooses the lineup so I have to be ready.
