Luis Enrique still confident Barcelona can win five straight

Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi brought up another milestone as he scored his 500th goal for club and country.

Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against Valencia, when Barca created many chances but were unable to convert them, had been a better performance than the previous two defeats to Real Sociedad in La Liga and Atletico in Europe, Robert maintained.

Atletico erased Barcelona’s lead by beating Granada 3-0 earlier.

An alarming dip has seen Barca take just one point from four Liga matches, with the club top only by virtue of a superior head-to-head record over Atletico Madrid, with Real Madrid a point further back.

They have just five league games remaining as well as a Copa del Rey final against Sevilla next month and Enrque admits they need to pick themselves up quickly. Our margin for error has run out and we are aware of the challenge.

Both Barcelona and Atletico have 76 points this season, but Messi’s slide continues to lead on goal differential.

From being a one-horse race, it now looks like being a thrilling three-way fight for the title and Atletico’s striker Fernando Torres said his side are reaping the rewards for never giving up even when Barca were streaking ahead.

That result heaped more pressure on out-of-form Barcelona, who fell behind to an Ivan Rakitic own goal, before Santi Mina’s fourth goal of the season doubled Valencia’s advantage at a stunned Camp Nou.

He completed a cross by Jordi Alba to keep his team’s hopes alive, but they couldn’t capitalise on their chances of equalising.

“There’s still a lot of league left, we are thrilled”, Spanish league president Javier Tebas said Monday. Real Madrid also is playing away in three of its last five matches. So yeah, like we said, inevitable.

“It will be hard, but we will do what the fixture list demands and asks of us: win, win and win”.

The Brazilian blocked Messi’s volley from close range before somehow springing to punch away Neymar’s lob which seemed destined to evade him.

“That’s football. The luck ended up favouring Valencia“. Sometimes the ball just doesn’t want to go in the net and on a normal day we would have won 4-1.

Sunday’s loss kept Granada with 30 points from 33 games, only one point clear of the relegation zone with five rounds to go. Today there’s not a single Barça supporters who is not proud of the team.

Substitute Angel Correa rounded off the scoring with a cool finish seven minutes from time.
