Last-gasp Martial sends Man United into FA Cup final

The game seemed to be heading for extra time until Martial broke Everton hearts deep in stoppage time with a strike worthy of winning one of the best FA Cup semi-finals of recent years to send United to the final for the first time since 2007. The Red Devils, at Wembley Stadium, beat Everton 2-1 thanks to a late Anthony Martial goal.

On his efforts to keep out a well-struck spot-kick from Lukaku, Everton’s top scorer who endured a nightmare afternoon in front of goal, De Gea added: “It was a key moment, they played really well and had some chances at the end, but we played really well”.

“I share the drive the club has, which is getting into the Champions League and situations where we can win silverware”, Martinez said.

Anthony Martial (Man Utd) One of United’s most creative players, frightening the life out the Everton defence with his pace.

‘I’ve been here three years and I always said that Everton is a very special football club and you saw that in this game with the fans.It hasn’t been easy in bringing silverware to Goodison which is what we want. Everton put on a lot of pressure in the second half, but we won today and reached the final and that’s the most important thing.

Gary Lineker has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to Manchester United’s progress to the final of the FA Cup. Own goal, penalty miss and a cracking finish, it was all there in what was a thrilling second half, which was no short of drama. However, the Toffees FA Cup title hopes were dashed in injury time as Anthony Martial scored the game victor.

Dutchman Van Gaal has faced endless debate about his United future, with media speculation that Jose Mourinho is waiting in the wings, after crashing out of Europe and poor performances in the Premier League.

“It’s not for me to judge, it’s for the board of Manchester United“, Van Gaal said.

There had also been reports suggesting defeat would spell the end of his tenure, but after “heartbreaking” loss to United, the Spaniard said he was still Everton’s best choice.

“I think Roberto’s done a fantastic job at Everton, he’s changed the style and brought a more attacking style to the club”. He rounded De Gea but was denied by Wayne Rooney’s goal-line clearance, and then had a shot blocked by the goalkeeper’s right leg after another long ball breached the United defense.

“I think it was a big improvement on Saturday and we controlled it from the start to the finish”, Smalling told MUTV.

Van Gaal remembers watching FA Cup finals in his homeland as a youngster but refused to cite which finals specifically.
