Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan had a lot of laughs on her show, dressed here for Halloween. In March 2015, Philbin told Hoda Kotb on her SiriusXM show that he hadn’t seen Ripa since he left the “Live” in November 2011.
Multiple outlets confirm that Ripa was blindsided by the news of Strahan’s departure. The competing “Today” show on NBC airs for four hours. Ripa replaced Kathy Lee Gifford in 2000 after she spent 15 years on the show.
It was not expected for her to do that, so Strahan had to fill time with guest co-host Ana Gasteyer, and address his exit without Ripa.
“Kelly’s off today“, Strahan said, convincing no one, by way of getting things rolling on today’s broadcast.
The former football star released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter looking forward to his new chapter and thanking Ripa. “So don’t worry, anybody, I’m not going anywhere”. “I was reading some stuff and it sounded like I died!” He was subsequently added to the GMA team in 2014 and has been appearing on the show twice per week while continuing to work on Live! alongside Kelly. “Can’t ask for better fans at all”. “I’m always available to guest co-host if I get a call because I consider myself a part of this family forever”.
TMZ also alleges that Ripa and Strahan haven’t gotten along lately, and that she finds him to be condescending and arrogant.
Later in the show, Strahan thanked his MIA cohost: “I really want to thank, of course, Kelly Ripa“. And she’s just been an awesome influence on me. “I love you and everyone else here at ‘Live!,’ and I’m not going to cry on TV, Mama, I promise you”.
Ripa, 45, an alumna of Eastern High School in Voorhees, and Michael Gelman, the show’s executive producer, reportedly only found out about Strahan’s move shortly before the news was made public on Tuesday.
