Jacoby Ellsbury stole home for Yankees vs. Rays

His home run was right after Sean Rodriguez’s who a 458.5-foot shot that now ranks as the fifth-longest home run this year.

The Yankees were down 3-2 when he made his impeccably timed run to give the Yankees a much needed boost as they improved to 6-9.

“I’m still stunned about what happened”.

“It’s a risk I was willing to take”, he said, adding, “That’s the ultimate adrenaline rush for a basestealer”.

In his first at-bat, Ellsbury singled to center field. “I mean, if Gardner swings, he loses a head”.

Or, perhaps, a big backswing by Gardner hits him in the face. When the left-handed Moore went into a full windup, Ellsbury broke for the plate. So now when I sit a guy, everyone wants to know why he’s not playing. The first came in 2009 against the Yankees while he played for the Red Sox. It was a breaking ball and I’ve seen Jacoby [do it before]. “It was an aggressive play”, he said.

“I just go out there, prepare and be ready to go whenever my name’s called”, he said.

According to the YES Network, the last Yankee before Ellsbury to pull off a successful straight steal of home was Derek Jeter in May of 2001. “It’s good to be on this side”.

Chris Young was the previous Yankees player to swipe home, as part of a double steal in 2014.

The Yankees trailed 3-2 in the fifth when Ellsbury singled with two outs and Didi Gregorius followed with a single off Matt Moore (1-1). NY tied it in the bottom of the second when McCann drove a 2-1 fastball into the right-center-field seats for a two-run homer, his third homer of the season.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jacoby Ellsbury stole home with two away to tie the game at three.

Andrew Miller (1-0) worked a scoreless inning for the win, getting a double-play grounder to end the ninth. Tampa Bay loaded the bases with one out in the second inning and took a 2-0 lead when Forsythe lined a two-run double down the left-field line.

“Just an outstanding effort”, Rays manager Kevin Cash said. The day off came on Kiermaier’s 26th birthday. “There’s genuine excitement throughout the organization”, Cash said. His RBI single in the sixth gave the Yankees the lead that they’d never let up. He has a sore left shoulder. Yankees reliever Branden Pinder has a partial ligament tear in his right elbow and probably will decide in the next couple of days whether to have Tommy John surgery, Girardi said.

Blake Snell, perhaps the top pitching prospect in baseball, makes his major league debut when he starts for the Rays at Yankee Stadium. The 23-year-old lefty was a combined 15-4 with a 1.41 ERA at three levels of the minors last season. Ellsbury had gotten three hits Thursday night, but did not start in favor of Hicks when the Yanks opened their series with the Rays.
