Halle Berry shone on the red carpet this week for her new movie “Never Let Go” which hits theaters Friday, September 20th. Radio/TV radio personality Jazmyn Summers caught up with the award-winning actress at the New York premier.
Rocking a crystal mesh Tamara Ralph halter dress and a Tiffany necklace, she teared up announcing to the audience that this is one of the first films executive produced by her new production company Halle Holly.
Berry told Summers she plans to focus on content with strong, multicultural, female protagonists and “Never let Go” spotlights a strong and fierce mother.

In the psychological thriller, Berry stars as the mother of twin sons (played by Anthony B. Jenkins and Percy Daggs IV) who have been haunted by an evil spirit for years. Their only sanctuary is their house and staying connected at all times – even tethering themselves with ropes – they cling to one another, urging each other to never let go. But when one of the boys questions if the evil is real, the ties that bind them together are severed, triggering a horrifying fight for survival.
“What I love about this mother is she’s a darker version of herself,” she shares with Radio One. ” I’m a mama bear and I’ve protected my children for many reasons. So, I understand what that is. Many parents say they would do anything for their children. They would take a bullet for them but would you really? This role gave me a chance to explore that plus we’re dealing with the momma’s own generation of trauma. We all have damage that was poured, spilled into us. And how she deals with that is the terrifying question.”
Berry, who sheds her glamor for yellowed teeth and snarled hair, says she has no problems not being her gorgeous self all the time.
“I got all jacked up. I love to disappear in my characters,” she reveals but real talk, she was still beautiful.
The two young men who play her sons are newcomers to the big screen and Berry raves about their performances, “These two young performers will blow your mind. They are a revelation.”
Antony Jenkins, who plays the older son, says working with Berry was a dream.
“She’s such a kind person. She was a great mama on set and off set. “
Percy Daggs IV, who is cast as the younger son, said even during filming it was scary,
“I’m like out in the woods in Vancouver, Canada, just in an abandoned cabin. It was scary and really real, especially at night.”

Besides killing it on the screen with a tour de force performance, the Academy Award-winning actress gushed she is finally happy and healthy in love with her new boo musician Van Hunt after painful divorces from David Justice, Eric Benét and Olivier Martinez.
“Before Van came into my life, I took four years and I was alone, completely, completely alone, by choice … And I worked on myself. I really had to take time to do that.”
Beyond the big screen, Berry wants to help women with health issues, especially aging and menopause.
“It’s a privilege to age,” she said. “As we age, we have to stop believing that we have to stay eternally 30. We’re turning into monsters trying to stay eternally 30. We have to realize we’re greater than the swithhell we’re walking around in.”
Berry, who played fan favorite Storm in the X-Men, revealed that she probably won’t be back in any of the Marvel series.
And her bad habit?
“Probably eating too many salty foods like chips and a little too much red wine sometimes.”
