Gerard Pique convinced faltering Barca will win La Liga

Barcelona lost to Madrid in the latest “El Clasico” on April 2 and was surprisingly eliminated from the Champions League after a 3-2 aggregate loss to Atletico.

And with reports of him having thrown a bottle at the Valencia defender, Barca are awaiting a decision from La Liga on whether action might be taken. That didn’t go too well.

Atletico easily defeated Granada at the Vicente Calderon Stadium with goals by Jorge “Koke” Resurreccion in the 15th, Fernando Torres in the 59th and Angel Correa in the 83rd.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone insists his team are fully focused on themselves after Barcelona’s recent collapse blew the La Liga title race wide open.

Just four games ago Barca enjoyed an 11 points advantage over Atletico Madrid and 12 over Real Madrid, but a run of one draw and three defeats (one of those to Real) has seen that lead evaporate in worrying style with Barca looking flat and exhausted and with key players well below their best.

The aura of invincibility surrounding Barcelona has eroded over the past two weeks. We lost two games in the first 30 and now three in a row, it is not normal.

There are five games left in La Liga, with Barcelona’s run-in seeing them host struggling Sporting Gijon and city rivals Espanyol and go to both Betis and Granada.

“We created a lot of chances but we were unlucky”.

Pique also remains optimistic that Barca will win the league. We depend on ourselves.

Looking to find a way to end its freefall, Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has his hopes pinned on starting strong against Deportivo in La Coruna. Today I think it was a hard situation, but we knew we had to play a very good game, and we dominated all facets of play.

Barca’s “MSN” South American strikeforce, who have scored 110 of the team’s 147 goals this season in all competitions, have suddenly gone off the boil and the most common reason cited by Spanish media for their loss of form is fatigue.

“It’s in our hands and we’re going to turn it around”, said Pique, who is suspended for the game with Deportivo.

Valencia could have won by more goals as they broke on the counter a number of times, especially later in the second half as Barcelona threw caution to the wind and piled players forward.
