Diamondbacks’ Yasmany Tomas: Powers team to win

“But with all those innings last night we turned to our guys that don’t play as much”. Very proud of them.

His first home run of the game, and first of the season, came in the second inning with Phil Gosselin on base to give the Diamondbacks an early 2-0 lead. He threw 94 pitches while surrendering five runs in four innings of a 7-0 home loss to the Dodgers on April 6.

Diamondbacks: RHP Shelby Miller (0-1, 8.18 ERA) is scheduled to start Saturday night. Brandon Drury hit homer number two in the fourth. He scored on Drury’s sacrifice fly. His second homer, a 414-foot drive to center, came in the top of the sixth and made it 5-3.

Miller walked the next three batters, including Jon Jay with the bases loaded, which allowed Ramirez to score, giving the Padres a 2-0 lead. Drury had a double and a triple in four at-bats for two RBIs and two runs scored.

A few hours later, four Arizona home runs let the air out of the balloon. The win runs my recap record for the year to 3-0, so you’ll be pleased to hear I will also be recapping tomorrow night, since Turambar is up in Sedona at a wedding.

“I felt good”, Corbin said.

The Padres, they didn’t get out to a great start this year. “I don’t really like losing so I’m not really too happy about the game”.

Yasmany Tomas got the homer party started in the first, bringing in two runs right away. Ziegler, however, was having none of it, starting with a strikeout of Alexi Amarista – though the runner on first stole second, taking the double-play out of the equation, and putting the winning run in scoring position. This was the first regular-season meeting of Arizona manager Chip Hale and Padres manager Andy Green, who was Hale’s third-base coach with the Diamondbacks last season.

Corbin bounced back after a shaky first inning in which the Padres scored two unearned runs due to two errors, including one by the pitcher. But Kemp was thrown out trying to reach third on the error.

The center field bullpens were noticeably empty through the game’s first five innings. This wasn’t completely uncharted territory for Z. On August 27, 2013, coincidentally against the Padres (but at Chase), he had gotten into the same situation – runners on first and third, no outs in the ninth and with a one-run lead.

“The first one at home and obviously we wanted to get that one out of the way, ” Upton said.

Upton’s triple was the Padres’ last hit of the game as Corbin and three relievers retired 22 of the last 25 hitters they faced. After walking Cashner to load the bases.

Robbie Erlin and the San Diego Padres fell short in their attempt to get their first series win of the season. “In my mind a defensive miscue is what caused it to unravel for us, and that’s what we can’t have happen”, Green said.

“I kind of left the ball up, left it over the plate, worked behind certain times”, Erlin said.

Diamondbacks: RHP Rubby De La Rosa was scratched from his scheduled start Monday night at San Francisco after throwing the final two-thirds of an inning Saturday night and allowing Upton’s winning homer. He was only 1-for-7 with a RBI on Saturday night, however.

2B Jean Segura is hitting.340 (16-for-47) in 11 games from the leadoff spot.
