Swansea ended Chelsea’s unbeaten 14-game Premier League run under Hiddink at the Liberty Stadium with Gylfi Sigurdsson netting the winning goal on 25 minutes.
“In the first 20 mins we created some half-chances, but we were sloppy in materialising those options, thinking maybe it would come later”, Hiddink was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official website.
“Everyone in the dressing room was unhappy because we played well”, he added.
“I remember the first performance at Everton, the first half was very good, and we played well against Crystal Palace at home, but this is the best”.
It will be a courageous person that puts their money on a Chelsea win in the remaining six Premier League games they have left this season.
“Chelsea are a good, important team and they have not lost (in the league) under Hiddink”.
“When results are going our way it looks really good for the manager, for the chairman who made the decision to change things and for the players”, he said. He has to keep up that level and these three [academy] guys are the same.
Francesco Guidolin says talks over his Swansea future will be held as soon as the club are safe from the threat of relegation.
Having reached the 40-point mark widely regarded as a guarantee of top-flight safety, Guidolin thinks Swansea can start planning for next season. “I will continue to focus on my job with the Italian national team and will reserve speaking about Chelsea again until after the Euros”.
Chelsea began to control possession as the match wore on, with Swansea dropping deep as they sensed a precious win was within their grasp.
“This is a proud day for me and for the players”.
Chelsea stay 10th after a first league defeat under manager Guus Hiddink. He is 100 per cent committed in every training session and that is why I rewarded him with the chance to play.
By the end of the season, Swansea could have new owners.
“I probably wasn’t too happy with myself before the turn of the year”.
“The last game against [Aston] Villa, he had a cramp on 70 minutes but rather than substitute him, we let him go to have this experience”.
