Britney Spears’ bodyguards and dancers earned their salaries Wednesday night, stopping a man who snuck onstage in Las Vegas, where the singer has a residency at Planet Hollywood, TMZ and Las Vegas’ KNTV report.

A bodyguard standing to Spears’ right noticed the man from across the stage and tried to get the singer’s attention as she performed Crazy. But she didn’t seem to catch on until her dancers and other guards had him pinned down. 

Informed of what had happened, Spears’ knees briefly buckled as she asked the guards if everyone else was OK and whether the man had a gun. She was then ushered backstage while the man was handcuffed and escorted out and then later resumed the show.

On Thursday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told USA TODAY in a statement that they arrested 37-year-old Jesse Webb, whom security had asked to leave even before he got on stage. They said he was taken to the Clark County Detention Center but as of the time of publication, he was not yet in their database.

Wednesday was Spears’ first show back after a summer tour of Asia, she noted in a tweet earlier that afternoon

Taylor Swift took the stand Thursday in federal court in Denver to testify about what she says an ex-radio DJ did to her in 2013: grabbed her bare bottom during a pre-concert photo shoot.

She was firm, certain and explicit. She said former Denver radio host David Mueller “grabbed my a– underneath my skirt,” then she lurched away as fast as she could.

“It was a definite grab. A very long grab,” Swift testified. “It was a very shocking thing that has never happened to me before.”   

After little more than an hour, Swift left the stand without being cross-examined.  

During her testimony, Swift, who was wearing a floral-print summer dress, told the eight-member jury that Mueller appeared to show signs of someone who had a few cocktails. “He was loud.”

Swift repeated what she has said in depositions for the case, that she was certain it was Mueller and certain of what he did. 

“I have experienced every degree of awkward first encounters,” she testified. “This was not jostling. He grabbed my bare a–.”

Despite being stunned, Swift said she said nothing to Mueller because she did not want other fans lined up to hear anything and she did not want to cancel the event and disappoint them. 

The photo of the encounter shows, Swift testified, “he was in the process of grabbing my a–, yes.”

Swift and Mueller are battling each other in dueling lawsuits over whether he groped her four years ago, when she was 23 and he was 51, and whether she and her mother and management team got him fired for the alleged behavior.

The trial, which began Monday and is expected to last up to nine days, has already featured testimony from Mueller — who denied he deliberately groped Swift and suggested someone else might have done it — and her mother, Andrea Swift, who didn’t witness the encounter but believed her daughter who told her about it.

Swift testified that her security guard, Greg Dent, saw Mueller “lift my skirt” and grab her but that it was it was impossible for anyone to see his hand beneath her skirt because they were posing for a photo with their backs to a wall.

Swift said Thursday that someone would have had to have been underneath her to see the actual groping “and we didn’t have anyone positioned there.”

A tearful Andrea Swift took the stand Wednesday, pointed to Mueller and declared “that guy” had “sexually assaulted” her daughter during a photo op at a pre-concert fan meet-and-greet.

Taylor Swift said she had nothing to do with Mueller’s firing (two days after the encounter) and that she had no reaction when she heard about it. 

Did she think Mueller got what he deserved? “I don’t feel anything about Mr. Mueller. I don’t know him,” Swift replied.

Later on Thursday, one of Mueller’s bosses at KYGO radio, Bob Call, took the stand to testify that the photo of the encounter played a role in Mueller’s termination under a morality clause in his contract. Call said it unquestionably showed Mueller’s hand behind Swift’s bottom.

Call testified that he and other station bosses thought the photo of the encounter was “damning,” as Swift’s lawyers maintain; he said he had never seen a photo from a meet-and-greet that resembled it. But Call also said that Mueller was fired because Call believed he was lying about his interaction with Swift. (Swift’s team asserts Mueller changed his story about the matter multiple times.)

Mueller sued Swift and her team in 2015, two years after the encounter, seeking millions in compensation for loss of his job and reputation after, he asserted, they slandered him and pressured his bosses to fire him. Swift then countersued him, accusing him of deliberately groping her, and denying she or her team had anything to do with his firing. 

Two years later, after settlement talks failed, they’re facing each other in a federal courtroom.  

Swift is seeking a symbolic $1, saying she wants to serve as an example to other women who have been assaulted. She did not report the alleged assault to police at the time.

Andrea Swift acknowledged in court Wednesday that she sought to keep a lid on the encounter in order to protect her daughter.

“I did not want to make her relive this moment over and over again,” she said. She said Taylor was “humiliated” and “really shaken” after the encounter.

“We absolutely wanted to keep it private, but we didn’t want him to get away with it,” she testified.

Mueller has testified that he did not deliberately touch Swift inappropriately, but that he might have accidentally touched her in the rib area in his hurry to jump into the photo shoot with her. 

He also acknowledged that his bosses had discussed letting him go before the Swift encounter, and that he could think of no reason why Swift would have fabricated her allegation against him.

Chris Cornell will be forever remembered with a statue in Seattle



Chris Cornell’s Seattle legacy will be cemented in the city thanks to a new statue honoring the iconic rocker.


The Soundgarden frontman, who took his own life in May, will be remembered with a statue of his likeness in Seattle later this year, his widow Vicky Cornell told The Seattle Times.


The creation will be designed by artist and sculptor Wayne Toth, who was the brains behind Johnny Ramone’s statue at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.


“He [TOTH]has already given me a design and the children and I love it,” Vicky Cornell said to The Times.

It has yet to be determined where the statue will be placed, but it will certainly be in Seattle, where the rocker was born and became and influential part of the city’s grunge scene.


“He is Seattle’s son,” Vicky continued, “and we will be bringing him home and honoring him, I hope, with all of you, your love and support.”


Also in the singer’s honor, his wife has launched the Chris Cornell Music Therapy Program as part of the Seattle non-profit Childhaven.


Vicky shared that Chris was always interested in helping and protecting children who had suffered physical or psychological abuse and this will serve as a way to continue that legacy.

“His promise was to help the most vulnerable children,” she said. “My vow now is to keep his promise, and what better way to honor Chris and his hometown than by creating a music program to help these babies heal.”

Pink asks 'What About Us' on comeback single, announces new album 'Beautiful Trauma'


Nearly two decades into her career, Pink is as consistent a pop star as ever, a reliable source for self-empowerment anthems that often come with an edge

With a new single, What About Us, out Thursday, the singer announced the arrival of her seventh album Beautiful Trauma on Oct. 13, her first since 2012’s The Truth About Love. 

Pink has generally mellowed out from the in-your-face feistiness of her earlier songs, and her best 2010s-era singles fall at opposite ends of the emotional spectrum, from the spunkiness of tracks lie Raise Your Glass to the understated sincerity of her Nate Ruess duet Just Give Me A Reason. What About Us falls somewhere in the middle of those two extremes, its lyrics full of the problem-child rallying cries that have become Pink’s trademark.

Many of Pink’s best songs have at least a trace of guitars, but the singer seems more interested in the dance floor these days, as heard on both What About Us and Waterfalls, her March collaboration with Stargate and Sia. 

“I could not be more excited right now. My single comes out today ‘What About Us’ and my new album ‘Beautiful Trauma’ comes out October 13th,” she captioned an Instagram photo of the album cover. “I’m certifiably, insanely proud of this album. It’s been a while, and I’m grateful for all the years we’ve had. Looking forward to the next chapter with you.”

LONDON — Scientists have named a prehistoric crocodile described as “one of the nastiest sea creatures to have ever inhabited the earth” after late Motörhead frontman and British heavy metal icon Lemmy Kilmister.

London’s Natural History Museum says the fossil of what’s now known as Lemmysuchus obtusidens was dug up in England in the early 20th century but was incorrectly categorized with other sea crocodiles found in the area.

Researchers recently took another look at the specimen and gave it a new classification and a scientific name of its own.

The fossil is housed at the museum. Curator Lorna Steel suggested it be named after Kilmister, who died in 2015. She says in a statement that “we’d like to think that he would have raised a glass to Lemmysuchus.”

Review: With 'Rainbow,' Kesha is an artist reborn


 

By the numbers, Rainbow is Kesha’s third studio album. But spiritually, it’s her first.  

Out Friday, Rainbow is Kesha’s first full-length release since her prolonged battle with her mentor-turned-alleged abuser Dr. Luke. It’s the first to feature Kesha’s voice without the electronic sheen that characterized previous hits like TiK ToK, Die Young and We R Who We R. And it’s the first album to let Kesha get weird — and not the manufactured, party-girl “weird” she projected in her previous incarnation. Rainbow is a confetti gun of an album, with 14 wildly eclectic songs that see Kesha at her defiant, unbridled best, whether she’s introducing her mom to Godzilla, collaborating with Dolly Parton or boarding a rocket to space. 

Rainbow is an album that many thought would never exist, with a mysterious origin story complicated by legal drama. Kesha’s years-long court battles with Dr. Lukehinged on her claims that the producer prevented her from releasing new material, with a judge denying her request to escape from her contract with Luke’s Kemosabe Records.

In April, Luke stepped down as Kemosabe’s CEO, and experts have suggested that Kesha may have reached a behind-the-scenes deal with Sony to release new music.  Questions still remain about whether Luke had a say in Rainbow’s creative direction, or whether he stands to profit from its sales. 

 

Yet, from Kesha’s first note on Rainbow, it’s clear that the album isn’t a Dr. Luke production. While Kesha has always been a musical chameleon, her past releases under Luke’s control were overprocessed and hollow,  his lifeless pop production rendering her big-voiced choruses as artificial as the 808s surrounding them.

On Rainbow, Kesha has never sounded less polished, and that’s a compliment, as she warbles and yodels and chirps in a childlike voice, trying on different vocal quirks for size. Hearing her hair-raising belting on tracks like the frenetically joyful Let ‘Em Talk, it’s baffling that anyone would think Kesha’s sounded better as a robot. And thankfully, she’s officially left the sing-rapping behind. 

Rainbow isn’t an album for cynics, with nearly every song offering a different vision of redemption to listeners. There’s Prayer, the album’s Biblical lead single, invoking images of Kesha singing from the heavens in white robes and a halo. Bastards swipes the proverb “Don’t let the bastards get you down” for its chorus, while Hymn, a prayer for the sinners, shows Kesha speeding down the highway, declaring “I know that I’m perfect, even when I’m (expletive) up.” Woman, the album’s funkiest track, makes up for its lyrics’ by-the-book feminism with the always-welcome inclusion of the soul group the Dap-Kings. Old Flames (Can’t Hold A Candle To You) enlists Dolly Parton for a cover of the country legend’s yearning love song.

And on the album’s simply-sung title track, over a swelling orchestra, she looks at the world with childlike wonder and urges fans to do the same. Considering the battles Kesha has fought to bring Rainbow into the world, it’s astonishing how open and loving her worldview remains. 

A 14-track album is bound to have some duds, and many of Rainbow’s less-impressive tracks are soundalikes of other pop stars, from the Katy Perry-channelling Learn to Let Go to the Meghan Trainor-style playground pop of Boogie Feet. Kesha is far more interesting when left to her own weird devices, and it’s hard to imagine either artist making a song like Spaceship, the album’s final track, a banjo-plucking ballad that ends with a spoken-word outro, dictated from her rocket to space.

“I’m waiting for my spaceship to come back to me  / I don’t really care if you believe,” she sings, the perfect closing statement from an artist reborn.

Bill Murray went to see the ‘Groundhog Day’ musical…again



Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but Bill Murray is repeating his days.


The actor went to see the “Groundhog Day” musical on Wedesday night, which is exactly what he did on Tuesday night too.


The musical, with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Danny Rubin (who also wrote the movie), follows Phil Connors, a Pittsburgh weatherman who finds himself repeating Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Pa.

John Mayer honors Glen Campbell in concert

NASHVILLE — John Mayer is a complicated guy. 

Some of his critics — and he has his share — would argue that he’s not as complicated as he thinks he is. And he might be cool with the assessment that he’s a smart guy who gets ahead of himself on occasion. 

But among 21st century pop stars, Mayer stands out as a multifaceted talent. He’s been a 20-something VH1 heartthrob with a string of acoustic rock hits to his name. He’s also an esteemed guitarist, happy to act as sideman to talents of all leagues. And as he approaches his 40s, he has spent the last few years absorbing the catalog of the Grateful Dead, touring with members of that band in Dead and Company.

Now, with his Search for Everything tour — which stopped at Nashville’s Bridgestone
Arena on Tuesday — Mayer is giving several of his different sides a turn in the spotlight. Tuesday’s performance included three distinct sets from Mayer: with a full band, in his John Mayer Trio and solo with an acoustic guitar.

And his audience in Nashville (nearly a sold-out crowd) proved to be along for the entire ride. The signs were good from the opening tune, Helpless, when the room cheered just as loud upon the start of the song as they did when Mayer began one of his many dizzying guitar solos. 

It was clear Bridgestone was filled with true blue fans, but Mayer sensed another contingent in Nashville.

“I believe 95% of the people in this room currently have a record deal, or are in talks to have a record deal,” he joked as his drummer made a quick rimshot. “Which makes my job particularly tense. Many, many great performers are in this room tonight.”

He mentioned Chris Stapleton by name, and country stars like Kelsea Ballerini had made it known on social media that she’d be attending the show as a “fangirl.”

Keeping this audience in mind, Mayer wasn’t going easy on himself.

“I gave myself an 85% or a B-minus on the last song,” he joked. “That’s what artists do when great artists are in the room.” 

Speaking of great artists, Mayer made an unexpected announcement during his solo acoustic set. 

“I’m going to play this song with more love than precision,” he said. “And I play it because it’s my favorite song in the world.”

That song was Gentle On My Mind, by country music icon Glen Campbell, who died Tuesday at age 81.

Though he’d probably deflect such comparisons, Mayer has a lot in common with Campbell, as a pop star who’s also an esteemed guitarist and sideman. 

His solo acoustic take on Gentle went over well in Music City, but as Mayer explained, the success of the cover wasn’t his priority. 

“Whether I play it right or wrong, I’d rather have played it.” 

For the record, Mayer played it right.

As quickly as the room welcomed new songs, it took them mere milliseconds to recognize a track like Why Georgia, off his 2001 debut Room for Squares. Mayer said it reminded him of driving his mom’s minivan through Nashville on his earliest tours, sometime around 1998.

His raucous mini-set with his John Mayer Trio provided an initial jolt of electricity —particularly with the blues-rock staple Crossroads — but was also the most taxing stretch overall. The acoustic and trio turns kept the evening fresh, but the full band (which bookended the night) couldn’t help but house the highlights.

If you were asked to name Mayer’s biggest hits, you’d almost certainly mention Gravity. Still, you might not realize that it towers over the rest of his catalog, until you hear an arena give it a royal welcome at the end of a first encore. Mayer indulged in one final epic solo before bounding off the stage — and hinting to the crowd that he had one more tune to play.

That was another new one: You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me, and Mayer’s solo piano rendition revealed a bit of a debt to Randy Newman’s Dayton Ohio – 1903. It wasn’t much like the cool blues-rocker that took the stage two hours before, but his audience was just fine with that.

“You are an awesome crowd, for giving me the freedom to play whatever moves me the most,” he’d told them earlier. 

Later, he added, “I wrote songs I thought were cool, but you guys set up homes in them, and made me feel like when I play them, I’m going somewhere with you guys. I never saw that coming, and that’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me in my career.”

Kendrick Lamar wants to stop talking about President Trump



Kendrick Lamar is sick of President Trump killing his vibe.


The rapper, whose “DAMN” album address Trump’s presidency on several tracks, said he’s done talking politics.


“I mean, it’s like beating a dead horse. We already know what it is. Are we gonna keep talking about it or are we gonna take action? You just get to a point where you’re tired of talking about it. It weighs you down and it drains your energy when you’re speaking about something or someone that’s completely ridiculous,” he told Rolling Stone.


“So, on and off the album, I took it upon myself to take action in my own community. On the record, I made an action to not speak about what’s going on in the world or the places they put us in. Speak on self; reflection of self first. That’s where the initial change will start from.”
