Carli Lloyd injures knee in Dash game against Pride

USA national team star Carli Lloyd will undergo an MRI on her right knee after suffering a non-contact injury in the Houston Dash’s 3-1 loss to the Orlando Pride on Saturday.

“When you see the supporters of this Club, when you see the people that work at the Club and when you see the support around town for the Club, it’s just phenomenal”, said Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni.

The Pride announced at about 10 a.m. Friday that 20,000 tickets have already been sold.

The Orlando Pride’s home debut was a record-breaking success at the Citrus Bowl.

In a meeting between two expansion teams it was the Pride who prevailed, 3-1 and the city of Orlando who answered the call to set a new NWSL attendance record.

Alex Morgan and Lianne Sanderson scored to lead Orlando, as the Pride throughly outplayed Houston for their first victory in franchise history.

For her record-setting tally, Catley earned Week 1 NWSL Goal of the Week honors. The trio of forwards in Ohai, Daly, and Janine Beckie look to cause trouble for defenders this season. I thought it was first class.

“We’ll we just made a tactical changes”, Sermanni said.

“I’m really disappointed that we lost the game, in particular with the second goal. But overall, I’m very happy with how we performed in Portland”.

Casey Short’s 28th-minute goal gave the Chicago Red Stars a 1-0 win over the Western New York Flash in their NWSL home opener at Toyota Park Saturday night. After receiving the ball, Catley – who scored the first ever goal for the team last weekend against the Portland Thorns – connected with former Thorns teammate Morgan feet from the goal, and the forward one-timed the ball into the far-side netting. Lloyd scored the second goal of the match, which would prove to be the game-winner, while rookie Rachel Daly added a goal and an assist.
