According to reports, on noticing scuffle between a foreign couple and locals outside a hospital in Chitaipur area a passerby Dhiraj Patil intervened and reported the matter to police over phone. On getting information inspector Bhelupur Anupam Srivastava reached there and took the foreigners with him.
Srivastava said that on reaching police station it came to light that Canadian woman Madison had reached India four months back with her friend Andrew Green. They were staying in Varanasi for one week. On Tuesday night Madison suffered diarrhea. On seeing her in trouble Andrew searched a hospital through internet and rushed her to Popular hospital in Kakarmatta area, said Srivastava adding, the hospital authorities admitted her.
The Candian couple claimed that during initial negotiation with hospital authorities they made it clear that if the treatment would cost up to Rs 10,000 they would pay it in cash. In case of more expenditure, they said the payment had to be made through mediclaim card to avail cashless treatment facility. The duo alleged that after treatment the hospital authorities charged Rs 10,000 from them on Wednesday night but on Thursday morning they gave them a bill of Rs 55,000.
When they raised objection over it they were allegedly caught by the hospital staff. They claimed that when they tried to come out of the hospital they indulged in fighting with them. Srivastava said that taking note of their complaint an FIR under section 420 and 341 of IPC has been lodged against the hospital authorities and they are being interrogated.
On the other hand the hospital owners Dr Kiran Kaushik and Dr AK Kaushik claimed that the foreign couple were not telling the truth. Mentioning that they are out of station they said that they had sought details of the treatment given to the couple from the doctors and hospital staff according to which best possible treatment had been given to her.
