Two armed men held up a Liberty City convenience store early Friday morning then fled, disappearing into the night.
Gregg County Sheriffâs Office deputies were called to Zippy Jâs No. 7 shortly after 1 a.m. The aggravated robbery case at 6242 N. Old Hwy. 135 is ongoing as investigators scour video footage for additional clues about the masked suspects.
âTwo unknown white or Hispanic males entered the location, presented a weapon and demanded money from the clerk,â GCSO Cpl. Josh Tubb reported Friday.
Both men were thin and wore dark clothing, he noted, and their faces were concealed. One suspect stood about 6-feet-tall, the other between 5-feet, 5- or 8-inches. Thereâs no estimate yet on the pairâs ages.
âAfter receiving an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency, they fled the store in an unknown direction of travel,â Tubb said. They may have escaped the scene in a late model, light-colored Dodge Charger R/T, he added later.
The sheriffâs office spokesman had no details to share about the suspectâs weapon.
The combined gas station / fast food restaurant is adjacent to Interstate 20.
âOur investigators are still working and collecting evidence,â Tubb added. âAt this time, thatâs all we have. Weâre asking anyone to contact the Gregg County Sheriffâs Department or Crimestoppers if they have information or witnessed anything happening in the area at that time.â
